Things I noticed when I tried to install AWSTATS on the Debian System (Lenny):

1. The automated configuration script (awstats-configure.pl) doesn’t work beacause apt-get uses different paths at the installation of the package (also explained here). Maybe this has something to do with Lenny but I’m not sure.
2. All the tutorials I worked through didn’t help
